"Sponsor a Sod"

Eversley Sports Association (ESA) is holding a “Sponsor a Sod” competition featuring the new fields behind Cross Green in Eversley. “Sponsor a Sod” forms part of the overall £1.51m ESA project. To receive the full amount of the Football Foundation’s almost £670,000 grant, ESA fundraising needs to match it. Additional monies now needed are in the region of £130,000. “Sponsor a Sod” aims to make a major contribution to the raising of this required balance.

The total playing area of 32,000m2 has been divided into 3,200 sods of 10m2 each. Each sod is available for sponsorship at £10 per sod. For every 10 sods purchased by an individual entrant, an extra sod is thrown in free, i.e. 11 sods for £100. For every £500 entry, 10 sods will be added free, and for every £1,000 entry, 30 sods will be added free. Furthermore, names of sponsors of £1,000 or more will be engraved / printed on the ESA Supporters Board that is to be permanently displayed in the new clubhouse. The ESA will display all sponsorships made by individuals and overall competition progress in the clubhouse at Eversley Cricket Club (ECC) and on the ESA website (www.eversleysa.com). There are 7 special sods that are holding beneath the turf cash prizes of £1,000, £500, and 5 of £100 each. All money raised goes to the ESA Fundraising Appeal Fund. Closing Date is 27th October 2007.
“Sponsor a Sod” drew to a close on Saturday 27th October at the ESA Fireworks evening. The draw was made by Mary Lynch of Eversley Cricket Club. The winners of the five £100 prizes, the £500 prize and the £1,000 prize, who were announced by Clive Cernuschi of California Football Club on the night, were Joseph Milner, Peter MacLaverty, Peter Naylor, Susan Budge, Jack Robinson, Ben Guy and Nicola Hammond.

Total funds raised were a little over the £10,000 mark which means that after prizes and expenses, £7,500 was raised by the supporters of the three member clubs of the ESA. A big thank you to all those who were kind enough to contribute to Eversley Sports Association and here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
